The soup kitchen attached to St. Francis Mission provides a Saturday noontime meal service for the Arbor Hill section of Albany, one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods. Through donations and the efforts of volunteers from various area churches, it serves a full meal to individuals and families who have little or no other sources of food available to them. At the present time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only takeout meals are provided. Since late 2020, St. Francis has served 150-plus meals every Saturday.
St. Paul’s provides volunteers for the mission’s operation every second Saturday of the month; some volunteers appear on additional Saturdays to ensure sufficient staffing.
In addition to manpower, St. Paul’s also provides financial support.
